Involving
young people in development initiatives is very critical to the economic growth of a country. This generation has excess energy,
strength expertise to utilize the available resources at their disposal to meet their demands and needs so that they do not
indulge in social vices.
The
morale of young people has been lost due to certain factors that are beyond their control. One of such challenges is unemployment,
which is a global concern yet there are excess opportunities for them to legally earn their living by equitably allocating
the available resources. Another challenge is corruption, which takes a center stage in many countries denying young people
opportunities to access resources. Poverty is another challenge, which is beyond the control of third world countries due
to poor governance by authorities.
It
is therefore a prudent step to empower young people to participate in all development initiatives that will change the lives
of children and adults and respond to any challenge that may affect their effort.
Young
people form the largest part of world population. At the beginning of the 21st century, an about two out of three
person in sub Saharan Africa is 10 to 35 years. This is the largest group of young people ever in the region to require intervention.
The majority of young people are marginalized in participating in development initiatives. Various Governments have no proper
policies for young people that may enable them contribute to economic growth.
Young
people are moving from rural to urban searching for white-collar jobs or visit relatives and end up staying in town centers.
As a result old people are left in the rural areas to manage farms, livestock and other possessions. It is also sad to have
qualified young people in different field of professions being jobless for along time before they secure a job. Lack of education,
health facilities and proper training has resulted to poverty that could have been tackled if proper programmes are put in
place for it.
